Non-NHS Services

Private Work Fees

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:

  • Medicals and forms for employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc)
  • Medical reports and examinations for insurance companies and employers
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Passport signing
  • Private prescriptions
  • Private sick notes
  • Vaccination certificates
  • Holiday cancellation forms
  • To whom it may concern letters
  • Forms, certificates and medicals

Why is there a fee?

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and we will be happy to advise you about them or you can view them  here SCHEDULE OF FEES 2023. Please note that fees are reviewed periodically.

If you have a form that you need completing or countersigning by a GP please read it carefully and complete and sign any sections required by you before bringing it to the surgery marked for the attention of the Communications Team. We ask that you allow up to 21 days for the process to be completed. Paperwork is released on receipt of payment which can be made by cash, cheque (made payable to Widcombe Surgery) or bank transfer.

Private Smear and phlebotomy (blood taking) tests

Dr Hodson undertakes private smear tests and blood taking when needed. This facility does not prevent the usual NHS smear taking place when it becomes due, but is a service available for those who may prefer to have smears more frequently than offered. For further information please click on the links below or leave contact details for Dr Hodson’s attention at the surgery and she will contact you to discuss this.
